Dilemma
The individual of the postmodern era struggles to find a path between two separate “identities”. On the one hand there is the digital identity one creates oneself and on the other, there is the real identity one has to bear in the physical world.
In chasing after ‘likes’, one is in denial of a growing isolation and alienation from one’s own true nature. This world then becomes one where essence slips into appearance and reality into representation.
Dilemma is an invitation to see these ways of being through the perspective of diptychs. It attempts to generate a discussion by highlighting the two choices and invites the audience to consider the possibility of a third alternative. Could this third choice be accessed by reading the two images simultaneously rather than each one on its own?
Dilemma underscores perceptions and prejudices, points at social norms while highlighting the ways in which communication has become disrupted under the guise of popular culture.
Dilemma
Postmodern çağın bireyi iki farklı ‘kişilik’ arasında yolunu bulmaya çalışıyor. Birisi dijital ortamda kendisinin yarattığı sanal kişilik, diğeri ise fiziki dünyada taşımak zorunda olduğu gerçek kişiliği.
‘Like’lar peşinde koşuştururken, giderek yalnızlaştığını ve gerçek kişiliğine yabancılaştığını görmemeyi tercih ediyor. ‘Öz’den görüntüye, ‘Gerçeklik’ten temsile doğru kayan bir dünya onunkisi…
‘Dilemma’ bu varoluş hallerine diptikler aracılığıyla bakmayı öneriyor. Özünde izleyiciyi iki seçenek arasında düşünmeye davet eden bir tartışma ortamı yaratırken, üçüncü bir bakış açısının olasılığını da sorguluyor. Bu bakış açısına iki fotoğrafı, ayrı ayrı değil, birlikte okuyarak ulaşılabilir mi?
Dilemma; algıları ve önyargıları vurgularken, toplumsal kabullenmeleri dürtüyor ve modern toplumlarda kültür kisvesi altında yapılmakta olan iletişim kirliliğine dikkat çekiyor.
